CHILDREN put away their packed lunches and instead tucked into a Roman banquet with parents at Lavant Primary School.
As part of the Empires and Eruptions topic, children put on their togas and sandals and enjoyed a feast of traditional Roman food.

It was a cross-curriculum topic with French, as the students learned about the cartoon Asterix which is set during the Roman period.

When covering the Asterix cartoon, an artist visited the school to teach them how to draw it.

Children from Years 2 to 6 were involved in the banquet, and joined in with a French recital.

Teacher Jane Haywood said: "The topic was fantastic. The children really loved it. There was a lot of creative work involved."

As part of their homework the would-be Romans made their own chariots and designed Roman villas.
