Chichester Fencing Club fielded three great teams in the Sussex junior team foil championships.

Ten children represented their club brilliantly – Peter Beadle, George Hendrie, George Bailey, Izzy Fitzgerald, James Whittle, Oscar O'Hara, Ben Thair, Jack Glynn, Matthew Warwick and Daniel Grimwood.

All three teams fenced superbly, showing great skill, dexterity and tenacity to carry off the title, the trophy and even the second place medals as well, a great achievement for them all, some of whom were competing in their first ever competition.

The club also fielded an outstanding team – Thomas Hendrie, George Hendrie, Sam Mullett and Mark Bengry – in the Men's Sussex County Championship Team Foil event.

There were strong teams from all over Sussex, but none could come close to the Chichester team, all of whom fenced superbly to take the title with consummate ease and fencing of a standard that hasn't been seen in Sussex for a very long time.

It was a fantastic result by a brilliant team which will be talked about in Sussex for a long time to come.

Alice Jago, Izzy Fitzgerald and Claire James from the Chichester club competed in the Sussex ladies' championship team foil competition with outstanding success.

All three, despite being under 16, fenced superbly to take the title of Sussex champions for the second consecutive year.

Club coaches said it was 'a wonderful achievement and well-deserved for three exceptionally hard-working and talented young ladies'.
