BIG names from the golfing world took part in Cowdray Park's pro am.
Former Ryder Cup stars Paul Way, Steve Richardson and Gordon Brand were among the stars who played for a share of the £10,000 prize fund.

Taking the top pro prize was the host club's Scott Brown, who went round in 68.

David Mills, Brand, Way and Kevin Saunders were just a shot behind. The team prize was awarded to David Mills' line-up, with Jim Rhodes and Nick Job's teams close behind.

The event raised more than £1,200 for the captain's charity, the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice near Arundel.

Many of the pros present were from the seniors' tour and were lured to Cowdray Park local golfer Glenn Ralph, who was 23rd on the tour last year. Brand said: "This is my first time here but it's a good course.

"I play in three or four pro ams in a year and this one fits in nicely with our schedule on the seniors' tour."

Phil Stevens, general manager at the club, said it was Cowdray Park's biggest pro am since the 1960s and they hoped to build on its success by establishing it as a top-class event.

* Lady captain's day took place on the hottest day of the year.

Some 170 members and guests took part and glasses of Pimms were on hand halfway round.

Brian Street recorded a first hole in one on the difficult third.
