A fine debut half-century from Jon Haynes and excellent bowling from Dan Joseph and Steve Sedgley were not enough to stop Preston Nomads beating Chichester by three wickets.

Nomads put Chichester in on a good surface and Jes Goode's side found themselves in trouble with both openers back in the pavilion with the score at 16.

Tim Bishop and Dave Leaver played well for 31 and 40 respectively, but once Bishop was lost, Haynes joined Leaver and he batted superbly on his way to a well-crafted 54.

But once the pair were lost, the rest of the batting faded away, mainly through a hat-trick from Steven Riggs.

Nick Hobbs (3-45), Kashif Ibrahim (3-55) and Riggs (3-34) were the pick of the Nomads bowlers and their efforts meant Chichester were dismissed for just 162, which was at least 40 short of a challenging total.

However, Chichester's bowlers did their best to defend it.

At three for two, Nomads must have feared the worst as Joseph (4-54) bowled with real pace and aggression in an opening spell that had the potential to swing the result in favour of Chichester.

Four further wickets were lost with the score at 53, 66, 69 (Jeremy Green for 48) and 89 – and at that point Chichester appeared to be in the ascendancy. But Ibrahim ensured this was not to be the case.

Ibrahim batted with patience for his 43 not out and, combined with a solid 23 from James McKemey, it resulted in the victory for Nomads.
Steve Sedgley (2-34) and James Stedman (1-32) were the other wicket-takers for Chichester.
