We've action involving Aldwick, Lavant, Tillington, Loxwood, Selsey's seconds and Goodwood in our latest local cricket round-up.
Barnes Green v Aldwick
The undoubted highlight of a good weekend for Aldwick was an amazing catch by Ian Demers which would have impressed in the county game.
The unlucky batsmen was D Conway, who, with M Southon, put on 45 for the sixth wicket before seeing Demers sprint 30 yards in the deep to catch the ball inches from the ground in his left hand.
Earlier, M Hennock & D Gregory put on 75 for the first wicket.
John Young (4-39) made the breakthrough.
With Joel Lodge taking two for 33, the visitors were soon 97 for five. Conway and Southon's partnership paved the way for a recovery and Barns Green finished on 189 for eight.
In reply, Arthur Bradbury (35) and Adam Rutter opened with a stand of 43. The run chase slowed until Demers scored a rapid 35, and Lodge carried on with a quick 24.
Keelan Belcher finished it off with 28 not out. Man of the match was 16-year-old Adam Rutter, who carried his bat for 48 to give Aldwick their third league win of the season.
Aldwick II v Barnes Green II
Another match-winning show from an Aldwick youngster was the feature of an easy eight-wicket victory over Barnes Green.
It was the turn of 15-year-old Jack Bingham, whose bowling was top-class as he finished with unbelievable figures of six for two in only 5.2 overs.
He was well-supported by Charlie LaForet (1-13), Ryan Purvis (1-20), Ryan Hicks (1-6) and Declan Belcher (0-2), but with the help of poor batting from the visitors he was easily the star performer.
M Banard top-scored with 15 and was still there at the end of Barns Green's short innings of 50.
Opener Rob Willway (31 not out) continued his run of quality batting performances with another solid knock as Aldwick strolled to victory in just nine overs.
Aldwick v Tangmere
John Young top-scored with 37 in Aldwick's total of 149 for seven as Tangmere's bowlers J Gledhill (3-21) and A.Steward (2-14) were successful in restricting the home side to a modest total.
Despite the modest run chase, John Young did his best to outwit the visitors with a great spell of five for 12 from eight overs.
Opener D Blow batted well for 36 before he was bowled by Young.
Aldwick's bowlers continued to bowl a good line but they did not have enough runs on the board and J.Murray (37 not out) took his side to victory in the 37th over.
Lavant v Worthing Forresters
Lavant were outplayed, but hung on grimly for a draw. Worthing Forresters made a creditable 172 for four on a pitch not conducive for batting.
P Timms held the top order together with 42, laying the foundation for Cook to hit a belligerent half-century.
The Lavant attack lacked their usual bite and the fielding was the same, apart from Burford's neat pick-up and throw to run out Woolly and Rawnsley's catch in the deep to dismiss Coates.
In reply, Burford and Wignall started brightly enough but, before long, the victory target was beyond reach as the visiting bowlers made the Lavant batsmen work harder and harder for their runs.
With wickets falling regularly, the home team battened down the hatches to avoid defeat, while a youth-experience pairing (B Timms and Martin) bowled slow left-arm spin and slow right-arm spin beautifully at the end.
Tillington v Loxwood
Tillington produced their best victory of the season to beat Loxwood by four wickets in a slow-scoring match.
Tillington won the toss and asked Loxwood to bat on an apparently bowler-friendly wicket.
This was the case as Hill and Murray caused the batsmen problems.
Farmelo (10), Talman (11) and Dean (10) top-scored but Hill (6-30) and Murray (2-19) skittled Loxwood out for 53.
A direct-hit run-out by Darren Hodd was the highlight in the field.
Tillington lost both openers cheaply but Wickham (21) left them well-poised for victory.
A good bowling spell from Talman (4-16) set up a tense finish but Darren Hodd & Noakes saw Tillington home at 54 for six and end their run of draws.
Selsey II v Southwick II
Selsey travelled to top side Southwick with a young team.
Despite defeat, it was the experienced Micky Kennedy who stole the day as he returned Selsey's record league figures of nine for 46.
Southwick were asked to bat first and their openers started well, making 110 for the first wicket.
Chris Woolgar brilliantly ran out Trott (53) and Cannings (39) was Kennedy's first victim.
Southwick never really recovered despite batsmen making starts and they ended on 204 all out losing their last ten wickets for 94 runs.
Selsey's main problem all season has been weak batting.
Only Tom Cripps (12) and Tom Benham (13) made double figures as the opening bowlers Trott and Burki ripped through the line-up with three wickets each.
Selsey could not form any partnerships as they slumped to 75 all out and a 129-run defeat.
Goodwood v London New Zealanders
In one of the best games ever played at Goodwood, the home side won by three wickets with three balls to spare.
On a belter of a wicket, the New Zealanders made hay, with Fanning and Sim playing well.
There was a superb spell of spin bowling by James Mayne – his 25 overs brought the only wickets of the innings.
The Goodwood reply faltered until John Clifton and skipper Jamie Miles' record fifth-wicket partnership of 143, Clifton making a superb hundred.
Wickets fell quickly, but young academy player Chris Smith and Alex Clifton saw Goodwood home.
