ARUN INDOOR Bowling Club coach and member Sonia Heil gives Maureen Robinson, her daughter Tracy and grandchildren, Laura, 12, and Ben, 13, some tips on the sport as a new generation of bowlers give it a try.

The scene came at the Nyewood Lane club's first open day of two planned this year.

The club was awash with people who wanted to give the sport a go.
Not everyone signed up for coaching or immediate membership, but 27 people did.

Members said more than 50 people visited the club during the day, including many youngsters – who club officials were particularly pleased to see taking an interest.

Raffles, target bowls and items for sale raised £250 for the club, and more than £200 was raised for leukaemia research.

The club thanked the Observer for boosting attendance with a feature on their activities in the paper a fortnight ago.
