Chichester Runners staged their 21st Midsummer five-mile road race in the country lanes around Lavant, including a full lap of the Goodwood motor circuit.

James Baker set his authority on the race and pulled clear to win in 25min 40sec, two minutes clear of his nearest rival by the finish.

To complete a successful evening for Chichester, new member Abderrahim Jalal pipped Chris West for third while first veteran home Tony Roddis made it four in five for the host club in fifth place, followed by Jo Corbett and veterans Kevin McGreal and Keith Toop making it seven in the first eight, the club's most successful result.

Emily Allden of Midhurst Milers continued her great form by winning the women's race by more than four minutes.

Fay Cripps (second) led home Sarah Burholt and Trudi Cunningham to give Chichester the women's prize.

* James Baker won the Heathfield 10k – the second leg of the Sussex Grand Prix 10k series – in 33min 10sec.

He needs one good display from two races left to clinch the title.
