Youth football is getting back to something like normal as the weather improves. Catch the latest action and goals in our weekly round-up -plus news of an up-coming six-a-side tournament.

UNDER-NINE

Felpham Colts Athletic A 7 Worthing Town D 0

After a long break because of rain, snow and ice, the Colts played their first game of 2010.

The absence of games showed in the first ten minutes as Felpham got off to a slow start with the play scrappy.

Colts replaced Will Gatland with Callum Litterick and eventually found their feet.

Tom Riggal, Zoe King and Litterick dominated the midfield and the latter went on a run which finished with a shot into the top corner.

That settled the nerves and before half-time a well-controlled shot from Sam Niepold made it two.

In the second half, the defence performed well and man of the match Litterick grew in confidence, scoring another three goals, all from outside the box.

Brad Harding had to make a couple of good saves and one of his goal kicks saw Riggal set up Niepold for another goal.

Worthing never gave up, but Niepold was determined to complete his hat-trick. He got it with a shot from wide on the left.

Felpham's coaches praised the whole team for their efforts.

FELPHAM: Jake Aylward, Callum Litterick, Brad Harding, Oliver Pearce, Tom Riggal, Sam Niepold, Will Gatland, Zoe King, Arthur Stone.

UNDER-TEN

Bognor Town 0 Felpham Colts 1

Felpham Colts carried on their good form with a battling performance against a tough Bognor team on a muddy Bognor pitch.

The start of the game was very even with both midfields and
defences cancelling each other out.

In the middle of the half, Felpham got their passing game together and created a good chance for Jacob Miller but his shot just went wide.

With six minutes to go before the end of the half, Felpham found Jamie Aldred, who was standing at the edge of the box.

He turned and hit a shot which went into the bottom left corner.

Felpham held on to their lead until half-time.

In the second half, Bognor started to push for the equaliser but the defence held firm with man-of-the-match James Mears outstanding.

The game became end-to-end and both Cameroon Norris-Guy and Lewis Cox had chances to score for Felpham.

With five minutes to go, Bognor's Jack Vivash broke clear but his hard shot which was going in the bottom left-hand corner was brilliantly saved by Nat Roman.

From there, Felpham defended the last few minutes safely to secure a great win.

FELPHAM: Roman, Mundy, Logan, Mears, Simmons, Aldred, Riseborough, Miller, Cox, Norris-Guy.

UNDER-14

Withdean Youth 1 Pagham Youth 0

This county cup tie was the first game Pagham had played since early December and they put up a great showing against last year's finalists.

Withdean started brightly and controlled most of the possession, but as the first half went on, Pagham got more of the ball and started to cause Withdean a few problems.

The first half ended goalless.

Pagham were put under a fair bit of pressure in the second half, but with Ryan Carter in goal and the back four of Joel Lane, Tom Stannard, Xavier Southerton and Josh Formaggia all in outstanding form, Withdean were having trouble in making a breakthrough.

With about ten minutes to go, though, Withdean scored and it was enough to put them through to the next round.

Pagham can take great credit for their battling performance and the effort that was put in – and hopefully they can take this sort of performance into their league games.

PAGHAM: Carter, Lane, Stannard, Southerton, Formaggia, Calderwood, Edwards, Poole, Strachan, Garner, Matthews.
