Meet the team who have forgotten what losing feels like
THERE'S no stopping Chichester ladies' hockey team.
They were promoted to South Division 3B at the end of last season after a great run in which they won their league, the National Vase and were runners-up in the Sussex Cup.
The first half of this season has been a positive one and they are currently trailing the league leaders Trojans by one point.
In all, Chichester have not lost a league game in 18 months – and now they are hoping to carry on the run until the end of the season.
In their latest run-out, they thrashed Havant ladies' second team 9-0.
They had drawn 4-4 with them at the start of the season, which had disappointed Chichester after they threw away a 3-0 lead.
Chichester started strongly to put Havant's defence under enormous pressure, forcing them to make a number of mistakes.
The forward line of Claire Greenway, Charlotte Cox and Anna Page worked well together as a unit, making numerous attacks and running rings around the defence.
This led to Chichester's first goal from Greenway. Louisa Smith made a fantastic tackle to win the ball and passed it to Greenway, who dribbled around two players and netted.
Chichester stepped up another gear and Havant were struggling to keep up with Chichester's pace.
Greenway was unstoppable and slotted another two to complete her hat-trick.
Tobie Wittleton scored another to make it 4-0 at half-time.
At the start of the second half, Rachel Mackinney made some fantastic runs down the right, outpacing Havant's players every time.
The next two goals came from Wittleton and Cox, a reward for hard-working performances. Greenway slotted home her fourth to make it 6-0.
Havant hadn't had one shot from open play in the whole game and they started to argue among themselves.
Chichester capitalised on this as Louise Clark made a tackle from the back and passed to Mackinney, who drove goal-bound, pulling the keeper out wide before slipping the ball to Fiona Harris, who scored.
The final goal came from Mackinney, who won the ball in Havant's D, dribbled round the keeper and reversed it into the back of the net.
Chichester were ecstatic with the win.
