A former industrial and commercial photographer, Gill Woodruff knows her stuff.
And her expert knowledge and skills mean that as a sales assistant at Sussex Camera Shop in Bognor Regis she is highly valued by customers.
Described as helpful, kind, cheerful and someone with 'endless patience', Gill has a great sense of humour
and sense of fun which makes every day at the shop a real pleasure.
Her willingness to help and the respect she shows to customers has now earned her a nomination in the best shopworker category of our community awards.
Gill has been working at the store for more than 20 years and during that time photography has been through many changes and with her cheerful personality and love of sharing her skills, she has been able to make the transition for many people a smooth and enjoyable experience.
She thoroughly enjoys working with the public and values all the customers.
"It's a small, personal shop and we know all our customers' names," said Gill. It's nice because you can have a bit of a joke with them.
"I love it I really do and I get a real buzz from it. "I like teaching people, they are always surprised when they come in and don't know anything and then they go out and they can do it and they get so excited, it's lovely."
Because of the number of regular customers the shop has a very friendly and unique atmosphere, thanks in part to the excellent customer service which is so vital to creating a good business.
"It's crucial, and I think it's what sets us apart," said Gill. "It's nice because customers think they own you and they can say personal things to you, like "I like your hair". It sounds a bit corny but the customers are like your friends – really and truly."
