BOMB disposal units carried out a controlled explosion at Littlehampton railway station on Friday night (February 13).
A suspect package, in the booking hall, was reported to the British Transport Police (BTP) at about 9.05pm.

A BTP spokesman said: "Explosive search units were deployed and cordons were put in place. A controlled explosion was carried out on the item, believed to be lost property."

Speaking on behalf of Southern Trains, a spokesman said that there were no trains between 10pm, when police closed the station, and the end of the evening's timetabled services.

The booking hall, which was closed for the duration of the operation, was handed back to Network Rail at 1.06am.
