ARUN District Council is taking to the streets, to get residents' views on major development.
A public consultation on the council's blueprint, setting out where 6,000 new homes will be built in the next 20 years, will include a website, a display at Arun Civic Centre and a mobile unit, fitted out with maps, plans and laptops.

Leader of the council, Gill Brown said: "We have some tough decisions to make in Arun over the next few months, and the input of local residents is absolutely integral to this process.

"We are extremely hopeful that the mobile consultation unit will allow us to reach more people than ever before. I urge everyone to take the time to visit the one nearest them and give us your feedback."

Between 5,500 and 6,000 must be built in greenfield sites.

Central government has ruled that Arun must provide sites for 11,300
homes, in the two decades up to 2026. With 900 already built, planning permission given for a further 3,450 and brownfield sites for 1,250-1,750 identified in Littlehampton and Bognor, that leaves 5,500-6,000 to be built on greenfield land.

Three options are set out in the draft document, which will be presented to the public through this consultation. They see between 1,500 and 2,000 homes being built in Littlehampton, between 500 and 1,500 in Angmering, and up to 2,500 on land surrounding Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate. Ford Eco-town is also included as one of the options.

Residents' views are "vital".

Mrs Brown added: "It is vital that as many people as possible let us know where they think major development should take place in Arun over the next 20 years.

"We know these decisions will affect many people across the district, so make sure you let us know which option or combination or options you would prefer to see implemented."

Arun has condensed the report into summary leaflets, which will be handed to people taking part in the consultation, and planning officials will be on hand at the mobile unit, to answer questions and respond to queries.

The full document, named Arun Core Strategy - Options for Growth, is available to view online.
