Community groups get grants

Sussex Fun Days and Horsham Kidz Stuff Festival 2010 were recipients among five awards made by the North Horsham County Local Committee.
Community Initiative Funding is administered byt he CLCs to help community projects and either pump primes new initiatives or supports one-off application for special projects.

Awards given were £850 to Barns Green Youth Club to purchase two HP la
ptops at £425 each to replace old laptop computers.

Sussex Fun Days, an activity scheme during the summer holidays for children with special needs, was awarded £1,775 towards school hire, insurance, a full-time nurse, entertainers, toys and equipment.

The same amount was awarded to the Rotary Club of Horsham Kidz Stuff Festival 2010, a festival for pre-teenage children with a day dedicated to special needs children, towards publicity costs.

The Space Drama Project was granted £500 to buy items for the 'Our Town' theatre project, towards the hire of costumes, set design, publicity and admin charges, lighting operator, petrol and front of house costs.

The New Runners Club for the Disabled was granted £100 towards advertising, transport and entrance fees to outside events.

An application by the Rudgwick Biodiversity Project for £1,120.68 to purchase materials (including oak seats and backs, oak logs and fixings) for the construction of three wildlife benches was deferred.

Also deferred was an application from Horsham District Indoor Bowls Club for £3,000 towards new carpet for the indoor bowling green.

West Sussex Mediation Service was declined a request for £449.50 to buy copies of West Sussex Street Atlases to provide to volunteers.

The committee felt that there were other ways to source the information, such as Google maps or multimap and were not supportive of the application.
