The club hoped to build a 3,500 capacity ground on land at the site in North Heath Lane, Horsham. But the proposals were thrown out by Horsham Disctrict Council's Development Control Committee on Tuesday.

After a board meeting last night (Wednesday), the club has revealed its 'dismay' at the vote.

In a statement, secretary John Lines said: "The Board of Horsham Football Club are dismayed at the decision by Horsham District Council Planning Committee to reject the plans for the provision of a new stadium for Horsham FC at the Holbrook Club site on North Heath Lane."

"Horsham FC believe that the plans put forward are well thought-out and fully in line with planning requirements. Furthermore they ensure and secure the continued use of the site as a recreational sports ground as a facility of significant benefit to the community of North Horsham

"Horsham FC believe the North Heath Lane site is the most suitable long term home for the club as well as enhancing the existing community services the Holbrook Club and their facilities provide. Horsham FC will consult with Council officials but intend to appeal against the decision."
