THIS was the scene on Friday night as firefighters battled to control the blaze at the former Northbrook College art and design building in Hurst Road, Horsham.
Firefighters arrived around 11.15pm (Friday July 18) from just down the road where they are stationed.
Most of the first floor and roof have been wrecked. The cause of the fire isn't known yet.
Northbrook College announced it would be closing the Hurst Road site – affecting about 60 students and five staff back in May 2005.
After 19 years in the town the college stated that the Horsham art facility would be transferred to Worthing as part of an 'ongoing review of cost effectiveness and course duplication' in September 2005.
Since then it has remained empty, though plans have been submitted to the district council for re-development.
The Horsham campus had become part of the then new Northbrook College in 1986.
