POLICE have appealed for crash witnesses after a man was airlifted to hospital and five other people were injured in an accident on Saturday.

The airlifted man suffered severe injuries in the crash involving two cars on the A264 near Slinfold.

Five other people were taken to hospital by ambulance after the accident at 4.51pm on Saturday October 11.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene, with fire crews having to cut one man from the wreckage.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service representative said they sent three appliances to the scene, on the Billingshurst Road between Broadbridge Heath and Five Oaks, and were there for an hour and a half.

Sussex Police say one man was airlifted to hospital in London, another was taken to New East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, with the other four being taken to Worthing Hospital.

The road policing unit at Haywards Heath are asking for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Broadwood.
