A FUGITIVE pig was lying low in a Horsham housing estate this morning, after a daring escape from an abattoir-bound trailer.
The porcine Houdini was headed for a slaughterhouse in Guildford when he broke out at 8.30am as the truck waited at the junction of Harwood Road and Crawley Road.

After dashing into the South Holmes estate, the disgruntled swine was chased by residents before taking refuge in bushes.

'Stacy', as he was christened by residents, was treated to potatoes, carrots and bread as he hid in the bushes for around four hours.

After being tracked down by RSPCA inspectors at the scene, farmer John Day said he was 'flabbergasted' at the pig's escape.

He had not realised it had disappeared until he arrived at the abattoir.

But Stacy's freedom was short-lived, after Mr Day and RSPCA officers succeeded in corralling him back into the truck.

A wscountytimes reporter was on hand to chart the pig's bid for freedom. Click on the link to see a video report from the scene.
