There were some unusual entries at Sutton Horticultural Society Spring show when unseasonally-hot weather meant traditional spring flowers were past their best on the day.
Show secretary Judy Seers said: “We had a very successful day on Sunday, but the week’s glorious heat and sunshine left many Sutton residents with little to enter for the spring show as many of the traditional spring flowers were already over.
“Fortunately that did not stop the Sutton competitors – and some, like Sue Gibbon used it to her advantage with a wonderful spray of wisteria instead.”
New to Sutton and the committee, Sean Cemm, was very happy to win the cup for the most outstanding flowering pot plant with his lovely phalaenopsis orchid.
In the afternoon the visitors, more reminiscent of the summer show, enjoyed catching up with friends with a cup of tea and cake outside in the sunshine after enjoying the exhibits, and hoping for a win on the special garden-themed raffle.
