An elderly woman died in a car crash in Chailey early this morning.
Emergency services were called to a report of a car in collision with a van on Beggars Wood Road at the junction with North Common Road just after 6.20am.
The woman, who had been driving the car, was confirmed dead at the scene. A passenger in the car and the driver of the van are being treated for injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
To allow emergency services to deal with the incident the road was closed just after 7am at the A275 junction with the B2183.
Ian Walker, watch manager at Haywards Heath Fire Station, said: "We were called to an accident involving one car and a light van. One elderly female who was driving a Suzuki Vitara was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene by the ambulance service."
