Water usage from the mains has been cut by up to 25 per cent per flush with the toilets using rainwater to bolster volume.

The biggest initial test for the new eco-toilets at the centre was the South of England Show, which took place in June.

Over the course of the three-day show, there were more than 80,000 visitors, as well as several thousand exhibitors.

Previously all water was drawn from the mains supply to service the old toilets, now with the new eco-toilets in place, this consumption has already been significantly reduced with the help of the recent summer rainfall.

The eco-toilets were designed by Bolney based Ecotecture. They are constructed incorporating a variety of energy saving features including two large recycled plastic containers outside which are used to collect rainwater from the roof.
