CUCKFIELD has an Olympic mystery discovery to solve as Britain stacks up the medals in China.
Metal detector fan Brian Penny, 67, discovered a relic from the controversial 1936 Berlin games complete with a serial number while checking a field near the village.
Mr Penny, from Downsview Drive, Wivelsfield Green, has given the piece to Cuckfield Museum where it had been placed in a display.
The badge has the five distinctive Olympic rings set above what looks like six pillars.
It also bears the serial number 4898, which could indicate either an athlete pass or possibly an official's badge.
Museum curator Phillipa Malins said: "It's fascinating. It's a bit battered, but it's perfectly recognisable as an Olympic badge. It's difficult to find out exactly what it is."
