Saints' halos slip against Midhurst

Midhurst turned in a sparkling performance to overwhelm St Francis for the second time this season.
None shone brighter than winger Jonathan Goldsmith, who kicked four penalties and scored a try to cap a great inaugural season with the first XV.
St Francis gave the game away through ill discipline in the first 30 minutes, infringing in the set-piece and loose, with Goldsmith always waiting to capitalise on their mistakes.
Early Midhurst pressure left the St Francis fly-half retaining the ball at the bottom of a static ruck, and Goldsmith slotted his first penalty.
St Francis expectations were raised through a rolling forwards move, but Chris Proud ran the ball from deep in the Midhurst 22 out to the ten-metre line to create breathing space, and a linked-up display of forward running left St Francis pinned down and infringing again.
From the ten-metre line, Goldsmith slotted his second penalty, and the tone of the game was established. Josh Diamond collected from the re-start and ran through ineffectual tackling from the Midhurst 22 to within a whisker of the St Francis touchline before being hauled down by desperate defenders.
Andy Morrison and Bob Giles produced some incredible displays of intuitive running, opening up St Francis until, the visitors infringed at the ruck for a third time and Goldsmith inflicted a further three-point punishment.
Midhurst were launching attacks from all parts of the pitch, and the St Francis forwards were lacking in the lineout, where Mark Chandler and Jason Smith dominated in the air.
Further infringements culminated in a high tackle on Chris West and St Francis were penalised again, and Goldsmith slotted his fourth penalty from four to put Midhurst 12 points clear at half-time.
St Francis knuckled down, but their efforts were belated. Midhurst pressed home their forward advantage in the loose, unleashing Chandler who set up a fabulous dummy offload for Goldsmith to gain a simple try.
Against the run of play, Midhurst conceded a string of penalties, culminating in a scrum on their own 22 which Phil Luxton cleared to force St Francis back upfield.
Rad Lowry's crunching tackles kept St Francis pinned down, and quailty offloads paid off with fluid interplay between Midhurst forwards and backs.
Paul Haywood set up Jason Smith for a try and St Francis capitalised on Midhurst inattention to run in a consolation try.
