FORMER Midhurst Grammar School pupil Mark Longhurst, now a familiar face on Sky News, is to host a 'Question Time' style panel discussion on the future of secondary schooling in the Rother Valley at a public meeting in Midhurst.
The panel will include Midhurst Town Council chairman Colin Hughes, a grammar school student and a representative of the anti-academy NAME campaign.

Organised by members of NAME, the group has also invited speakers in favour of the proposed Aca
demy representing the grammar school governors, West Sussex County Council and the United Learning Trust which is the proposed sponsor of the Academy.

Commenting on the meeting, Simon Boxley of NAME said:"We're glad Mr Longhurst has come forward now. This is a good opportunity for people to hear from speakers on all sides of the Academy argument, and to shed some light on the important site issue.

"This comes at a crucial time as residents lodge their objections to the school's proposed closure with the county council as part of the statutory consultation."

After leaving the grammar school in 1975, Mark Longhurst became a familiar face to many across the region as host of BBC's South Today programme. He then went on to Sky. His father was headmaster at St Cuthman's School, Stedham, for many years.

The meeting will be held at Capron House, on Monday, July 14 at 7pm.
