Birds were among the themes of Fernhurst Primary School's art week, and they appeared in every size, shape and medium the children could make.
Different year groups learnt different craft systems in each of the classrooms, so they discovered collage, weaving, clay sculpture, printing, and painting on waxed material so the effect was like batik.

The reception class and Year 1 made birds from stuffed socks with feathers and glitter and they hung around the classroom.

They painted peacock feathers onto coloured material and also studied Picasso and modelled for and drew each other in his style while making statues out of cardboard in the same manner.

Another class made a very large peacock with the eyes and the tail made out of cross-stitch patterns with the body made out of papier mache.

The Owls, an appropriate name for what they were producing, made their birds, often bigger than lifesize, out of balloons and boxes, socks, cardboard tubes, feathers and mod-roc as well as a great deal of glue.

The ostrich vied for pride of place with seagulls, magpies, penguins, a honey buzzard, ducks and a bright pink flamingo.
