Tug of war champions from the Stag Inn at Balls Cross are challenging teams to match their strength at this year's Petworth's Fete in the Park.
Organisers of the fete, which takes place on Saturday, July 11, are calling on teams who think they can topple the champions to put their names forward for the grand challenge.

Anyone who would like to compete should contact John Riddell on 01798 342139.

The Fete in the Park, now in its fourth year, is already becoming a well-established date on the Petworth calendar.

A member of the organising team, Tony Sneller, said: "This year we have the added attraction of a fairground steam engine to add to the atmosphere alongside the fairground.

"There will be the usual performances by the Petworth Town Band as well as traditional dancing from Sompting Village Morris, Knickerbocker Glory (Appalachian clog dancing) and Petworth's very own Cloggies from the primary school.

"There will also be an opportunity to take part in a Bollywood dancing workshop – not for the faint-hearted."

There will be many local charities and groups raising funds, as well as craft demonstrations and activities. Classic cars will be parading in the arena and there will be other demonstrations.

"It's a great fun day out with lots to see and do for all the family and delicious hot and cold food and drinks, cream teas and ice creams as well," said Mr Sneller.
