Fittleworth Parish Council's June meeting was attended by most members, district and county representatives and two members of the public.
The chairman and deputy will meet with Southern Water at Pulborough on July 9 to discuss its proposed water resources management plan. The council was asked to fill in a questionnaire by July 25 but felt it first needed answers to the question of dis
charge of waste water into the Rother.
Chichester District Council (CDC) strategic housing land availability assessment was returned stating no development sites were available in Fittleworth. The chairman had already completed a questionnaire from Sam Irving, CDC's new housing enabling officer.
Mr Irving had been approached by a developer regarding a possible building plot in the village and wanted to walk around the village and discuss matters with the parish council. Councillors Poole and Stanforth met the rural enabling officer and looked again at three potential sites suggested by CDC last year.
To comply with health and safety requirements, work is progressing on stabilising the earth bank at the bowling green and 50 per cent of repairs to the north path are now complete.
Provision for regular maintenance on the sports pavilion building is estimated at around £2,000 a year. Two double-glazed doors in the pavilion have just been replaced for slightly more than £2,000.
Replacement of rotten wood in the Millennium Arch is almost finished at minimal cost. Replacement of deteriorating wooden benches in the Centenary Garden is under review. Several other benches around the village also need replacement and a new bench is to be donated for Birchwalk Woods once the site is decided.
Tidying up Birchwalk Woods which adjoin Hesworth Common is also proposed and the next working day will be Sunday, July 6 when some shrub and tree clearance will take place.
A summer fete on the recreation ground will coincide with the Horticultural Society's summer flower show on Saturday, August 8. The fete may become an annual event and the parish council intends to man a stall to display ideas and invite villagers' comments on proposals for community projects.
These could include a youth games area; employment of someone to keep the village tidy; additional noticeboards to publicise village events; a volunteer network to keep in touch with frail or elderly villagers living alone; provision of welcome packs for new residents; and a Villager of the Year award. A profile of how people want their village to look in 15 years' time and any other ideas would be welcome.
The next meeting of the parish council will be on Monday, July 21 at 7.30pm.
