Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club's Football in the Community programme made its second appearance at Fernhurst and the event proved even more popular than before.
Around 60 children booked ahead or turned up on the day for several hours of tuition from ten coaches, including Guy Butters who played for Tottenham, England U21, Portsmouth, Gillingham, Brighton and others, making a total of 657 appearances in the
football league.

Led by the enthusiastic Tony Clark, the boys and girls were split into eight teams for European Cup matches, and on their way there they were coached through all the drills and skills necessary for a topfootballer.

Equipment available to them was similar to that used by the top teams.

Sponsors for coaching days like this include the Hyde Martlet housing company, Chichester District Council, and the Raglan and Downland housing associations.

Each day costs around £1,000 and the children go home with a Brighton and Hove Albion goody bag filled with items such as posters, certificates, key rings and sun visors.

Brighton and Hove Albion have again been voted the best club for Football in the Community provision.

Competition winners at Fernhurst were:The Big Group – Owen Nugent and Liam Harding; the Little Group – Harry Tolworthy and Tony Postrup; crossbar competition, Big Group, Oscar Robinson and Jordan Warren, Little Group, Jake Eames and Oscar Brown; best attitude Big Group, Ben Oakland, Little Group, Amelia Blackwell; most improved, Big Group, Connor Read, Little Group, Oscar Brown; best players (good team members) Big Group, Lee Smith, Little Group, Harry Tolworthy; Euro Challenge Big Group – Holland beat Germany on goal difference, Little Group – Holland beat Sweden by one point.

There will be Football in the Community days taking place at Midhurst on August 18 and 19.
