FORMER pupils Adam Baker and James Crossman returned to Stedham Primary School for the offical opening of the welcome panel funded by their sponsored cycle ride.
Last year the two Year 5 leavers raised more than £150 through the ride across the South Downs.

They suggested the school should hold an art day, using the money so that every pupil contributed to a piece of work.

"The sponsorship was a wonderful surprise," said headteacher Hazel Morley, "and now we have a new 'welcome' sign made up of tiles that each child in the school has made.

"It looks lovely and came at a really appropriate time, heralding in our new era as a thriving four-to-11-years school."

In a speech at the opening ceremony Adam and James said: "Stedham Primary School has given us so much that we wanted to give something back.

"That's when the idea occurred to us to do a sponsored cycle ride to raise money for the school.

"We think the tile display is brilliant and can see that our money was well spent in an enjoyable and fun way. It looks fantastic!"
