RESIDENTS of Holmbush in Midhurst were enraged when two huge rubbish and recycling bin stores began to take shape at the end of their gardens.
They are part of a new development of 46 homes by Downland Housing Association which is being built at the end of Forest Road.

Neighbours claim the bin stores do not have planning permission and the area was designated as a car park.

They say t
he bin stores, situated so close to their homes, pose a serious health hazard and they are concerned that they will be plagued by flies and rats.

Speaking on behalf of neighbours at Southdown Close, John Evans told the Observer: "We were shown the plans and that area was a car park.

"We were under the impression that that was all there would be behind our homes.

"These bin stores are going to be the size of bungalows, right at the bottom of our gardens. If we had known this, we would have objected.

"I am not one for complaining, but this has pushed it too far. Nobody in their right mind would want a bin store that size so close to their gardens."

Mr Evans and his partner Karen have a two-week-old daughter, Jasmine, and they fear they will have to keep her inside the house because of the health hazard.

"We won't be able to put her in the garden. Can you imagine the flies and the rats?" he said.

A spokesman for Chichester District Council (CDC) said site plans for the development incorporated details of the bin store location and these appeared to indicate they were in the agreed place.

But she said a CDC planning officer would be visiting the Forest Road development next week.

She added: "Provision of bin stores and cycle racks are now essential if planning conditions are to be met for new developments.

"If there are any subsequent problems regarding noise, littering, cleanliness or similar, complaints can be made to the
environmental health team for investigation."
