There was a resounding vote in favour of keeping a secondary school in Midhurst when 170 people turned out to a public meeting.
It was the first step of a campaign by the town council to preserve a school on the Midhurst Grammar School site and retain its historic buildings.

West Sussex County Council's consultation on its plans to create an academy closed in April.

Further consultation by the proposed sponsor of the Academy, ULT (the United Learning Trust) closed on May 10.

The decision on the future of the Grammar School is expected before the end of June.

Education chiefs have said the academy would open this September on the Grammar School site.

A detailed feasibility study of both the Grammar and Intermediate School site at Easebourne then takes place before the site of the new £30m academy building is proposed.
