Geoff Lunn was the guest speaker at Fernhurst Horticultural Society's October talk with a slide show of his own photographs on the theme of Surrey Safari – Nature in Your Garden.
Mr Lunn has developed his garden to attract wildlife, including digging ponds, providing bare branches for birds to sit on, a supply of different foods to attract different birds, and even holes under his fence so foxes and hedgehogs can get in.
He has recorded 54 different bird species and produced stunning photos of them.
They included corn buntings, red poll, red wing, goldfinch and goldcrest as well as every one of the tit families.
He also showed frogs and toads, deer, mice, owls, a mink up a tree, and even badgers which he had enticed out of their setts with peanuts.
The society's chairman, Daphne Lawes, reported that Fernhurst had come third in the inter-village horticultural competition in September and would be hosting it next year.
Meanwhile there is to be a garden design course next year at the Fernhurst Centre by hands-on designer Ann Wright who has won gold medals.
The five-week course will start on February 16, from 7.30pm-9.30pm. Elements covered will include site measuring, site plans, plants, colours and shapes.
Anne Tonkin, who has been an international flower arrangement judge, will be giving a one-off demonstration lesson on Christmas door hangings and table top arrangements on December 10, also at the centre.
The horticultural society's next talk will be on Thursday, November 8 when Patricia Leichi's subject will be unusual hardy plants.
Visitors are welcome for coffee at 7.30pm and the talk starts at 8pm.
