A second public inquiry was being held this week into a contentious proposal to divert a public right of way at Pitshill, near Tillington.
Lord Cowdray's half-brother, Charles Pearson, is in dispute with ramblers' groups and West Sussex County Council over the path, which runs up the driveway of the dilapidated 18th-century mansion he bought 12 years ago.

Mr Pearson, who reputedly pa
id £3.5m for the house and grounds and has extensive plans for renovation, has created a new path taking walkers and horse-riders on a more circular route away from the house.

He wants to close the existing route, but an earlier appeal for consent failed.

The fresh inquiry, which follows a government review of criteria for diverting rights of way, was taking place at Lodsworth Village Hall.
