A tennis tournament held in aid of Haslemere Stroke Club and Discover Drama raised around £1,400.
The stroke club was established in 1990 and offers companionship, group physiotherapy, games, quizzes, bingo, poetry reading, entertainments and outings to anyone who has had a stroke, no matter how mild or severe.
Discover Drama was formed in 2001 to help young people with learning disabilities in local drama and performance activities. This proves important in both confidence building and self-esteem, and attracts youngsters from West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.
Tournament organisers Julia Scholfield from the Stroke Club and Di Currie from Discover Drama took advantage of the offer of the use of a marquee from Caroline and Spencer Wigley in Fernhurst, who had celebrated their daughter's wedding there at the weekend. It amply seated the 80 or so participants who had played all morning on courts around the area.
After lunch and a raffle, which helped considerably to swell the funds, the four highest scorers from all the courts played the final on the Wigleys' court.
In that match, Katherine Neagle and Chris Cley beat Alison Wallis and Viv WIlliams.
