Children at Conifers School in Easebourne had a special spring in their step when they abandoned their school shoes for Funky Footwear Friday.
It was all in aid of Sussex Air Ambulance and pupils were invited
to make a donation and come to school wearing the funkiest, coolest or funniest footwear they could muster.

And rising to the challenge they got busy creating shoes of all colours
, shapes and sizes.

They were adorned with ribbons and bows, oversized dad's shoes, furry bear feet, ducks' feet made out of marigold gloves and even a pair of shoes covered in sweets.

During the week leading up to the fundraising event on Friday, a number of linked activities took place.

These included themed poems written and read out by children in morning assembly; an art display of children's shoe designs; a look at shoes through the ages and a number of creative literacy and numeracy exercises.

The event raised more than £100 for Sussex Air Ambulance and headmistress Jennie Peel said: "Our Funky Footwear Friday has not
only been fun, but quite exceptional in encouraging children to express their creativity in words, pictures and thought.

"The work in the lead-up to the event and on the day itself was inspired.

"Inviting children to take part in fundraising activity prompts them to think about charities and the important work they do.

"We've been delighted with the extent to which the children have been involved."
