Billingshurst Horticultural Show results

Outside may have been the hottest day of the year but inside Billingshurst Community Centre there was an oasis of fragrance at Billingshurst Horticultural Show.

Trophy Winners: Maj Gen J M L Renton Memorial Trophy for man with most points: David Stevens, who also retained the John Kingston Memorial Trophy for best horticultural exhibit, Wally Wicks Memorial Trophy for most points in vegetables and flowers and the Bush Memorial Cup for most points in vegetables.

The Ladies Cup for most points went to Daphne Davies, who also won the W I Goodey Cup for cookery, the W I Beck Cup for W I exhibitor with most points and the Coronation Cup for cookery.

Sheila Leaney won the Open Cup for vegetables, fruit and flowers, and retained the Alan Dugdale Memorial Trophy for flowers, and the F R H Simpson Memorial Cup for amateur dahlias.

Irene Humphreys retained the Miss Puttock Memorial Cup for floral art and Madeleine Woods won the Howard Cup for “Floral Expressionism”. Maj Genl J M L Renton Award for Craft: jointly won byNessa Osgood, Ruth Isaacs, Audrey Wilkes, Madeleine Woods and Jane Comper. Audrey Wilkes won the W I Wilson Cup for Craft.

The Society Photographic Cup with to Jane Comper, the Eve McHugh Award for best photo went to Ray Chick, the W I Cup for Photography went to Jill Price and the Junior Cup went to ten-year old Isabelle Skinner.
