There was a distinctly French flavour to the Rotary Club of Midhurst and Petworth’s annual food evening.

Joining forces with Inner Wheel for the annul spring fund raising event members produced a water mouthing selection of dishes under the banner ‘Vibe La France’.

Over the last few months groups of Rotarians and Inner Wheel ladies have been meering to try out recipes, discuss options and taste the ideas for each of the four courses.

The final menu was tartelettes à l’ail rỡoti et le fromage de chèvre, bœuf bourguignon, fromage, sélection de trois desserts followed by coffee.

“Grateful thanks go to Sian and Andrew Mitchell for pulling all the organisational threads together,” said Rotary spokesman Helen Chapman.

This year Rotary president Nigel Goodenough chose Shelterbox as his main charity. These boxes filled with items including a tent, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, water purification tablets and basic tools are sent around the world to help people caught up in disaster areas.

Inner Wheel president, Hilary Wigley, chose Canine Partners and was delighted that Maggie and David Cross brought along their ten month old ‘puppy in training’ black Labrador ‘Shuey’.

“Thanks go to Midhurst Rother College for the use of their hall and to Tricolore who provided the music. Grateful thanks also go to all those who came and we were delighted it wasn’t just the organisers who dressed according to the theme,” said Helen.

The impressive £2,500 raised will be donated to the two presidents’ and other charities.
