A SUNNY day dawned for the opening of Sutton and District Horticultural Society’s spring show and the highest number of entries since 2009.
Art classes were very popular as was the sloe gin class and cookery judge Jill Wilkinson said she could have happily gone home with Lucie Patrick’s winning entry.
In the afternoon visitors were able to enjoy tea and home-made cakes on the lawn in the sunshine and the raffle after prizegiving was also a success.
The cup winners were: Roman Pavement Cup for the best exhibit grown in a container: Avril Southwell.
The Martin Armstrong Cup for the best exhibit in the horticultural classes, not grown in a container: Sue Dudman
The Macpherson Memorial Cup for the most points overall in the horticultural classes: Sue Dudman
The Parry Spring Trophy for the most outstanding floral exhibit: Anne Collis.
The Dudman Cup for the highest number of points in the floral art classes: Anne Collis
The Rudd-Jones Cup for the best exhibit in photography: Martin Shepherd. The Nevitt Cup for the best exhibit in the handicraft classes: Janet Hubbard. The Dundas Salver for the best painting or drawing: Jack Harland. Spring Baker’s Cup for the most outstanding cookery exhibit: Lucie Patrick. Priscilla Burfield Cup for the most outstanding junior exhibit: Molly Landstrom.
Winter Cup for the most outstanding intermediate exhibit: Tobias Gillott.
The horticultural society’s summer show will be held on Sunday August 2.
