Delays in marketing and developing the supermarket site next to the Grange Leisure Centre in Midhurst are affecting trade claim town councillors.

Now they have asked their Chichester district councillor Steve Morley to find out what progress is being made with the sale of the district council-owned land.

Vice chairman John Quilter said: “It is of great concern in the town. The delay that Chichester District Council (CDC) has incurred on this is certainly having a diminishing effect of the town’s economy. “It is a prime site in the middle of the town and it has been left empty for about two years. It’s about time it was put to use.”

CDC’s talks with developers who hoped to build a Waitrose store there, failed last year.

A new marketing pack was issued in May.
