Milland’s community shop and cafe has recorded another top trading week in terms of its turnover, with sales reaching £4,000 in the space of seven days.
Shop chairman Philip Watts said the shop, which opened last November, was enjoying widespread support, and the turnover figure was ahead of expectations.
“To add to this the shop is proud to report that this project won the Best Local Community Initiative category of the Life in Petersfield Awards,” Mr Watts added.
“The recognition has already helped to bring more customers in and hopefully is just the first of many awards the shop will win.”
Milland Stores and its cafe run with the aid of a small army of volunteers.
Mr Watts said the shop’s popularity with local shoppers meant it had already been able to introduce new services, cementing its role at the hub of the village.
“It now offers a good range of postal services including recorded and special delivery, and posting of letters and parcels,” he explained.
“New as well are dry cleaning services and a much bigger range of fresh vegetables – many now on display outside the shop. The café has also added greatly to the range of light lunches on offer.”
Additionally, Mr Watts said, Chichester District Council has given a grant of £7,000 to help the community shop accelerate its outreach programmes.
