Harting villagers are delighted to get their much-loved watering hole back, as new landlords move in.
The White Hart pub has been taken over by new landlords Angie Ryan and her husband Stephen Pratt, who moved in to run the vibrant South Harting village pub six weeks ago.
Thirsty villagers have been without a pub since the end of May, following the closure of nearby pub The Ship Inn.
Tragedy struck The White Hart pub in June of this year, following the death of landlord Peter Davies.
Now the pub has been refreshed and rejuvenated and is already taking the village by storm.
“A village wouldn’t be a village without a pub,” said Dave Barnard, chairman of Harting parish council.
“It is absolutely wonderful that the pub is open again and is being ran by such lovely people and we hope they make a success of it.
“A village tends to lose its identity without a pub, and with Harting being very vibrant, a village pub is a very important part of it.
“I know the village as a whole is very pleased the pub is back open again.
“It’s not just about missing having a pint, people tend to talk about different things in their local pub and it definitely has a social impact on the village.”
The family-run business is now looking to the future, with Angie and Stephen hoping to plan events with the villagers to see the pub grow into an even bigger success.
The pair are in negotiations with Enterprise, the pub owners, about a permanent lease for the pub.
