Hopes of boosting Chichester district tourism with web

A BLUEPRINT for the marketing and promotion of tourism in the Chichester district has been revealed.

Visit Chichester chairman Dr Andy Clegg has revealed the group’s new vision. It aims to reinforce the district’s status as a ‘premier destination’ on the South Coast.

The plan includes a ‘significant reboot’ of the website, both in terms of look and structure, with a greater emphasis on distinguishing between the city, coast and country.

Dr Clegg describes this as a ‘key differentiator’ which he believes needs to be taken advantage of.

“The aim is to provide visitors with more information about the Chichester district and provide a more user-friendly platform from which to effectively promote the fantastic tourism and business we have locally,” he said.

“Businesses on the website will also benefit from enhanced listings and a greater level of functionality.”

Dr Clegg was appointed as chairman of Visit Chichester in June.

Having drafted the destination management plans for Chichester and the Manhood Peninsula, he is well placed to understand the challenges of across the district.

At the meeting, held at Chichester Yacht Club, Dr Clegg said his main aim was to create a website that ‘reflected the true uniqueness’ of the district and ensured it would be a successful destination now and in the future.

“The key themes, as set out in the 2010 Destination Management Plan, are city coast and country and the website will reflect these,” he said.

“In addition, there will be numerous ways to enter the website and for accommodation, events, attractions, eating and shopping to be cross-referenced, according to the site visitor’s main starting point.”

Dr Clegg also gave details of new promotional packages, set to launch early next year.

From January, members will be known as ‘partners’ of Visit Chichester and be given a choice of five different packages, from a low cost web basic entry up to a gold package.

Those on the gold package will appear first in the 2013 print edition.
