A PROPOSAL to fit solar panels to produce electricity for the homes of retired Cowdray Estate workers has been given permission by district planners.
Lord Cowdray sought consent for 51 roof-mounted panels at Birthday House in Glaziers Lane, Easebourne, which was built by his father in 1965 to mark the present viscount’s 21st birthday.
The solar panels are to be installed on the inner side of the roof elevation of the north wing of the building, which has exposure to sunlight from the south east, south and south west.
The array will cover a roof area of 65.1 square metres.
Planners were told the benefits of the solar addition would reduce energy consumption at Birthday House, reduce its carbon footprint, and cut electricity running costs.
