Crews tackle Rogate fire

Crews from three fire stations were called to Rogate yesterday (5 September) to tackle a blaze which destroyed ten tonnes of straw.

The fire started at around 3.15pm on Slade Lane in Rogate.

Firefighters from Petersfield, Midhurst and Haslemere were called to tackle the blaze, and needed to use a mechanical digger to turn over the burning straw.

Three hose reels were used to tackle the blaze.

The fire, which is believed to be arson was put out at 4.45pm yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman from West Sussex Police said: “Police were informed of a fire on Slade Lane, Rogate at 4.55pm on Wednesday (September 5). West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire, where 10 tonnes of straw were alight.

Police and fire services are working together to establish the cause of the fire.”
