THIEVES have broken into a clubhouse and stolen what police described as a ‘large quantity’ of alcohol.
Chairman of the Midhurst Bowls Club Howard Seymour said the break-in had possibly resulted in up to £300 worth of drinks being taken.
“We do know how they got in,” he said. “There was a side door which they broke the bolt on.
“The bar had a metal grill which was forced.”
It is unclear exactly when the theft occurred, but police have narrowed it down to between 9am on April 4 and 9am on April 6.
The club had just restocked at the time, in preparation for the new season.
Mr Seymour added most of what had been taken was cans of beer and boxes of wine, as he added there were minimal spirits stocked at the club.
The break-in is not the first time the club has been targeted.
No-one appears to have seen the theft and steps have been taken to try to prevent future problems.
“We’ve beefed up defences,” added Mr Seymour.
“We will carry on and put it down to experience.”
