A CHARITY box belonging to the Friends of Chichester Hospitals has been stolen from a shop counter.
Jane Ramage contacted the Observer after the box was stolen.
“It was quite full and obviously it is dreadful that someone would steal donations intended to help our local hospitals,” she said.
“But, we are very concerned an attempt may be made to misuse it to collect more money dishonestly.”
She said Friends did not call door-to-door to collect and the group had no plans for a street collection so anyone claiming to be from the group should not be given a donation.
However, thanks to the Rotary Club of Chichester, the Friends will be collecting for a day at Tesco, Fishbourne, in December, and hope for support then.
Jane said anyone approached with a request to hold one of the Friends’ collecting boxes on their shop counter should ask to see identification or take details and call the Friends’ Office on 01243 831843.
