A large crowd gathered on the hill above Cowdray Ruins for the lighting of a diamond jubilee beacon in a celebration event organised by Midhurst Lions.

It was one of 4000 which lit up the night sky across the country.

The evening included a hog roast and live music to entertain the spectators as they waited for the moment to light their beacon giving the signal to Tillington further down the road, who in turn gave the signal to those waiting to light a beacon on Duncton hill.
