A HORSE breeder from Petworth is thrilled to have scooped a prestigious prize for his foal.

Dressage rider Richard Black, 28, earned the accolade for Lord Barnaby, born on June 1, at the British Equestrian Federation Futurity Evaluations, held at Plumpton College.

The foal won an Elite premium, which indicates potential to compete at an international level.

Richard said: “It’s nice they can look at him and say there’s potential.

“It was really relaxed and a positive experience for the mare and foal.

“It’s great to be able to get validation for the opinion you have on your own foals.”

Richard has lived in Petworth for the last four years.

Lord Barnaby is by Lord Carnaby out of Daiquiri, who Richard also bred.

The six-year-old has had two foals and will now be ridden through the winter, with the possibility of being put in foal again next year.
