SURREY Scout county commissioner Roxanna Bostock made a special visit to Haslemere District’s social evening to present well-deserved awards to some of its members.

Those assembled were also eagerly awaiting news of the appointment of a new district commissioner, but they were disappointed as Roxanna said the process was still ongoing but Scouts would be told as soon as she knew.

In the meantime, Frank Kitchener is carrying on as acting district commissioner and doing a great job, but after many, many years says he could do with
a rest.

The award of merit went to Ken Lindup, the group Scout leader at Chiddingfold.

Chief Scout’s commendations went to Andrew Grenside (Hindhead), Claire Morris (group chairman at Camelsdale), Mark Russell (Scout leader at Camelsdale), Jamie Short (district Explorer Scout leader), Mary Louise Goucher (district appointments secretary and Camelsdale group leader).

A 40-year long service award was awarded to Keith Clayton, Group Scout leader at Camelsdale, and a 60-year long service award
went to John Stone, Haslemere district PRO.
