VILLAGERS in Easebourne now have 24-hour access to a lifesaving defibrillator, thanks to an innovative idea by new parish councillor Jose Galego.
Easebourne parish councillors had already decided to buy their telephone kiosk as a heritage asset from BT.
Parish councillor David Pack repainted the landmark in Dodsley Lane, but they were scratching their heads about exactly how to use it.
Mr Galego said: “My son Jose had to do a first aid course for his job and he thought Easebourne should have a defibrillator available all the time.”
He contacted the British Heart Foundation which put him in touch with the ambulance service:
“I explained what we wanted to do and we were provided with a defibrillator completely free.”
There are defibrillators in Riverbank Medical Centre and Cowdray Golf Club, but the Dodsley Lane machine is the only one available 24 hours a day.
