WITH the Rugby World Cup 2011 barely laid to rest pupils from Midhurst Rother College were drafted in to help kick-off promotions for the next tournament in four years time.

Sports leaders from the college were called on to help through their Rugby Football Union development award and the passion that head of PE Hayley Kemp holds for all things rugby.

Twelve sports leaders from the college were the only pupils invited by the RFU to take part in setting up the Rugby World Cup 2015 video on the sacred turf at Twickenham.

Their task was to lead 277 primary school children in team tag rugby and supervise the childrens’ roles in the official movie clip that was shown on television after the World Cup Final.

Mrs Kemp said: “It was an historic event and one in which we were all very proud to be involved.

“Our students were the very best of ambassadors for the college and excelled in their sports leadership skills for which they were complimented by the organisers.

“It was really great to see our team getting the very best out of youngsters they had never met before - and there were so many of them.”

Year 11 Student, Archie Challen said: “It was the most amazing day – we really appreciated the exclusive opportunity to take part in something so special in the world of sport.

“It will be great in 2015 knowing that we were there at the start of a tournament which has such a fantastic following worldwide.”
